Taking away the mystery and fear of using a pendulum.
Pendulums have been used throughout time for a variety of purposes including bringing clarity to the beholder, finding water, checking Chakras and understanding health related issues. Pendulums can be as simple as a cotton string with a paperclip or as elaborate as precious gems and a gold chain. The art of using a pendulum is something that anyone can learn and master, and have fun experimenting with. A pendulum is one of the most commonly used tools for divination and dowsing.
Divination : the practice of seeking knowledge of the future or the unknown by supernatural means. (Divination from Latin divinare, which means “to foresee, to be inspired by a god”.
Dowsing : a technique for searching for underground water, minerals, lay lines or anything invisible, by observing the motions of a pointer or changes in the direction of a pendulum.
Pendulums & Personal Belief Systems
Personal belief systems vary among individuals using pendulums as a tool in finding answers to the questions they are asking and its effectiveness. Here are a few examples:
Scientific : This view is widely accepted amongst the scientific community. A pendulum is known to amplify slight movements of the hands caused by a phenomenon known as the ideomotor effect.
Ideomotor effect means a pendulum works by amplifying the minuscule movements within the user to create a swing. These movements are a physical response to the subtle energy changes in the body.
Muscle movements caused by subconscious mental activity – make anything held in the hands move. It looks and feels as if the movements are involuntary. The same phenomenon has been shown to lie behind movements of objects on an Ouija board.
Intuitive : The pendulum lets the user tune in to their intuitive powers and sixth sense. The pendulum acts as a form of receiver and transmitter, from your higher guidance, guardian angels and spiritual teachers.
Some people describe the way a pendulum works as being like bringing together the rational and intuitive sides of you (the left and right sides of your brain). When these two elements are brought together, you’re able to make decisions using all the sources, rather than just one of them.
Chakra : Our chakras are part of our subtle energy system that protects us and guides us on our journey here. The front side relates to our day-to-day realities or conscious self and the backside relates to our unconscious or extended realities.
Checking them with a pendulum allows us to explore if they are open and functioning properly or blocked and in need of clearing.
Shamanic : We all hold programs or ways of being that we’ve been taught by our family, society, and teachers and these create our perceived reality.
A pendulum responds to our own vibrational truth and if we use our pendulum with a clear open mind it will give us our true answers void of the programs and beliefs we hold on to.
Ideomotor Effect : people’s subconscious minds may influence their bodies without consciously deciding to take action.
If you find yourself attracted to a particular color or shape that also may be your perfect match.
How Pendulums Choose You
Our personal vibration attracts or dissuades pendulums that match our frequencies. Different crystals or metals work better with our vibration so this is a fun way to believe pendulums find us instead of vice versa.
The best way to choose a pendulum is to hold the end of its chain or string with your right hand then open your left palm below. I use my left because it has the closest connection to my heart. If the pendulum is correct for you, it should present a slight movement either in a circle, or you may feel a slight vibration or some sort of sign or indication it is correct for you. If you find yourself attracted to a particular color or shape that also may be the perfect match.
What is a Pendulum?
A pendulum is a symmetrical, weighted object that is hung from a single chain or cord. It’s never made of a magnetic substance, but is often a crystal. It’s also possible to use objects such as a favorite trinket, a bead, a metal ball or even a key. The pendulum is a very simple tool and one that lets the user tune in to their intuitive powers. The pendulum acts as a receiver and transmitter of information, and moves in different ways in response to our questions.
